The term “beer belly” often associates with men, but in fact it can develop in anyone, and – contrary to folk wisdom – it is not about drinking beer, but about the distribution of body fat.
In Hungary, one in three adults is overweight and another 28.5% are obese, so nearly two million people struggle with significant extra pounds. However, excess weight alone is just one of the problems: the critical question is where the fat is deposited. Abdominal (central) obesity, commonly known as beer belly, carries a much higher risk than the hip region (gynoid) type.
